IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute is an independent, non-profit research organisation owned by a foundation established by the Swedish government and industry. IVL was established in 1966 and has since then been involved in the development of solutions to environmental problems at national and international level.
The institute comprises Sweden’s largest groups of environmental experts and employs around 400 people, which makes IVL a leading institute for applied environmental research and consultancy services.
IVL undertakes research projects and contract assignments in the following areas: Natural resources, climate and environment, Resource-efficient recycling and consumption, Sustainable production and environmental technology, Sustainable urban development and transport.

IVL will lead the sustainability assessment of selected product value chains for the biobased products developed within Bio-LUSH. This includes analysis of market and business opportunities and life cycle assessments where techno-economic, social and environmental aspects are included. We will also support the safe by design approach on developing materials by identifying potential hazardous chemicals in the feedstocks, auxiliary chemicals and the final products.

“Bio-LUSH takes a holistic perspective on opportunities for the use of biofibres from underexplored plant resources. By involving experts from various fields the project covers the whole value chain - from the extraction of high quality fibres, conversion processes and product development to analysis on sustainability performance and business opportunities. The selected approach promotes the development of processes and products providing business opportunities that are economically and environmentally feasible and viable.”
